The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (“IDFPR”) posted this fraud notice on August 12, 2020, at https://bit.ly/2PLg9tk.
“IDFPR is aware of two fraudulent schemes claiming involvement from professional boards. One is an email that claims to come from the “Cosmetology License Board” and claims the recipient must pay $500 for an exam that checks their professional experience. This email (which comes from a private, commercial provider) is NOT in any way associated with the Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology Board or with IDFPR. Any official email from IDFPR or the Board will not come from such an email provider.
We also learned of a caller fraudulently claiming to represent the Illinois Board of Nursing. The caller tells the licensee their license is under investigation and that they’re not allowed to consult with any third party. This caller is NOT in any way associated with the Illinois Board of Nursing or with IDFPR, and you should not send them any personal details such as private information or your license number and should not send them any documents or money.
If you receive a call or email like those described above, please contact IDFPR at 1-800-560-6420 or DoIT Security at doit.security@illinois.gov.”
